Churchwell White Welcomes Five New Attorneys to Firm
Churchwell White office expands with addition of five new Attorneys. Two of counsel and three attorneys join Sacramento firm.

Churchwell White LLP is pleased to announce the addition of five new attorneys to the firm. These new attorneys mark not only the strengthening of core practice areas, but also a strategic expansion into new practices for the comprehensive benefit of clients.
With the addition of of-counsel attorneys William Thomas and Debra Hinshaw Vierra, as well as associates Scott Miller, Meg Wilson, and Anna Barth, the firm’s total number of attorneys rises to 21, making it one of the more prominent law firms in the Sacramento region.

William J. Thomas is a leading advocate for agricultural and ranching interests across California. For more than 40 years, Mr. Thomas has worked with farmers, ranchers, water suppliers, chemical manufacturers, and other business associations to advance their agricultural interests. He advises his public and private clients on matters relating to water quality, drainage, pesticide use & regulation, and endangered species. His expertise also includes water quality acts, state and federal environmental laws, Proposition 65, environmental conservation easements, and public land issues.
Debra Hinshaw Vierra is a recognized and trusted source of advice to human resources professionals and public and private employers all over the state, with over 25 years of employment law experience. Her extensive experience includes representing employers in collective bargaining negotiations and arbitrations; unfair labor practice and representation proceedings; and all types of employment discrimination and harassment proceedings, from mediation and administrative proceedings through litigation. She also advises both public and private clients on disability accommodation, family and medical leave issues, personnel policies, and employment agreements.
J. Scott Miller has extensive litigation experience in state and federal courts and at the trial and appellate level. His representation covers a wide a range of areas for public and private clients including employment, commercial matters, toxic tort actions, catastrophic personal injury claims, directors’ and officers’ liability claims, legal malpractice actions and other professional liability actions involving engineers, insurance brokers, and real estate agents. Mr. Miller has handled complex matters involving CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, California’s Proposition 65, the Hazardous Substances Account Act, and wastewater remediation disputes. At the core of Mr. Miller’s practice is a strong commitment to understanding the client’s goals and working tirelessly to achieve those goals through the most effective means available.
Meg Wilson is an associate whose practice focuses on labor and employment law. She defends both private and public employers in lawsuits brought by current and former employees, which include claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation; as well as a wage and hour class action lawsuits. Prior to joining Churchwell White LLP, Ms. Wilson worked at UC Davis, where she handled complex labor issues for the public University. At UC Davis, Ms. Wilson represented the University and the UC Davis Medical Center in labor arbitrations involving employee and union disputes, as well as in unfair labor practice hearings brought before the Public Employment Relations Board (“PERB”). Ms. Wilson also represented the University in grievances filed by the unions and administered the grievance and employee complaint process under the University’s policies and collective bargaining agreements.
Anna Barth joins the firm as an associate with experience in the practices of public law, real estate, and land use matters. Prior to joining Churchwell White LLP, Ms. Barth worked for an education law firm representing local school districts and county offices of education where she worked on governance, construction, and real property issues. Her interest in public law and service began during her childhood when she volunteered her time with various local school board and bond campaigns. Ms. Barth attended law school at the University of California, Davis School of Law where she was the External Competitions Chair of the Negotiations Team, Fundraising Chair of the of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society, and Marketing Director of the Business Law Journal.
