Churchwell White Grows to 15 Lawyers, Moves to Larger Space

Two years after four veteran lawyers from big firms launched a business of their own, Churchwell White LLP settled this month into bigger space to accommodate growth.

A boutique firm with expertise in public agency, water, land use, health care and political law, Churchwell White is up to 15 lawyers.

The firm recently moved up the street from 1201 K St. to larger offices at 1414 K St. that can easily accommodate 20 lawyers but could go as high as 24, according to managing partner Doug White.

“We don’t want to grow much bigger than that, which is a good thing because we signed a five-year lease,” he said.

The firm has six partners, three lawyers “of counsel” and six associates.

“Our model seems to be working,” White said. “That’s a lot of growth in two years and we’ve added both seasoned attorneys and new ones to our associate ranks.”

Roughly 60 percent of the firm business is public agency work. The balance comes from private clients. When the firm came together in 2013, the idea was to grow both practice areas and cross-sell expertise to clients.
