Anastasia Baskerville Of Counsel

Overview

Anastasia Baskerville brings over 25 years of California leadership and practice to White Brenner. She previously held Chief Counsel roles within the California Environmental Protection Agency, California Natural Resources Agency, and Government Operations Agency. She also held the role of lead enforcement attorney at the California Department of Housing and Community Development and brings extensive knowledge and experience to White Brenner of Housing Element Law, Surplus Land Act, No Net Loss, and the Housing Accountability Act. She began her state career at the Department of Conservation negotiating and drafting agricultural conservation easements, enforcing the Williamson Act and the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act, and representing the State Mining and Geology Board. Throughout her career, she has advised state bodies on open meeting law. Prior to her state career, she served as in-house counsel for Zurich Insurance litigating construction defect cases and insurance matters for commercial and private clients.

She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She serves on the Board of Vox Musica, a Sacramento based women’s choral ensemble that explores uncharted territories of musical expression and gives voice to underserved communities, provocative ideas, and indigenous people, including a partnership and choral commitment to the Nisenan Tribe. She has completed several marathons, still enjoys running, and loves walking and road trips with her three dogs and adult daughter. She hikes and backpacks with the Yosemite Conservancy and in the Sierras. During some of her travels, she enjoys volunteering in Central and South America for organizations that build self-reliance for women and children in underserved areas.

If not a lawyer… I would start a non-profit serving women to foster entrepreneurial and leadership training, global activism, and environmental justice, empowering women’s leadership to protect the environment and build healthier, more resilient communities.
